Dorothy Christiansen, loving wife and mother, passed away at age 78 on Saturday, July 24, 2021.
She was born in 1943 in Chicago to Leo and Gladys Kohnen. In 1964, she married Raymond Christiansen. She obtained her teaching degree and taught at Grissom Junior High for several decades. Dorothy was a Shetland sheepdog breeder who raised grand champions and was a well-respected judge at national dog shows for many years. She founded the National Sheltie Rescue Association.
Dorothy is survived by husband Raymond, daughter Stacy (Eric) and grandsons Jackson and Nicholas. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Shirley.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, Aug. 1 from 1 to 6 p.m. at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Rd, New Lenox, IL. Masks are required per the family’s wishes. A service will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 3 at 10 a.m. at United Methodist Church of New Lenox, 339 W. Haven Ave., with burial at Fairmount Willow Hills in Willow Springs. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to nationalsheltierescueassociation.org.
