Francis R. "Bud" (a.k.a. Deveyoc) Smolich

Born October 3, 1942 and passed away peacefully February 6, 2012 after a hard fought battle with cancer at the age of 69. Survived by the love of his life, Cheri nee Anderson, loving children Joy (Ron) Conley and Eric Smolich. He was the proud and devoted "Papo" of Austin and Gage Conley. Also surviving are two loving sisters Judy (Ron) Bolte and Sandy (Henry) Burla, father-in-law John Yorkin, and numerous other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank & Sophie Smolich, mother-in-law Margaret Anderson, his brother-in-law and best friend Ken Anderson, and close cousin Doug Thayer.
For the past 7 years, Bud has attended Family Bible Fellowship. Previously, Bud was a faithful member of Homer Congregational Bible Church for over 30 years and served the Lord Jesus there in many capacities including Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, children's Bible teacher, and Missions Committee Chairman.
Bud retired from Rovanco Piping Systems in July 2010.
He was a well decorated Viet Nam Veteran serving with Alpha Troop, First Squadron, 11th Armored Calvary Regiment 1969-1970. On October 20, 2009, after almost 40 years, Bud and Alpha Troop were presented with the Presidential Unit Citation by the President at the White House.
Bud loved life and was well known for his numerous jokes and pranks. He and Cheri's giving hearts to those in need were an inspiration to all. Bud will be dearly missed by many, including his beloved pets. The family will receive friends at Goodale Memorial Chapel, 912 S. Hamilton Street, Lockport, IL 60441 on Friday, February 10, 2012 from 9 AM until time of Memorial Service at 11 AM. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
