Howard C. Matthew

Age 90, of Orland Park, IL., formerly of Pawnee and Jacksonville, IL., passed away on Monday, September 9th, 2013 at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox. Howard was born and raised in Pawnee, IL by his grandmother Carrie E. Clark, where they operated a grocery store. In 1961 Howard and his wife of 71 years, Imogene nee Tindle moved to Jacksonville, IL where they built and operated the Carole Jean IGA. Howard was a World War II Air Force Veteran from 1943 to 1946, a lifetime member of Springfield Ansar Shriners, and lifetime member of the Elks Association and American Legion in Jacksonville, IL. Loving father of: Carolyn (Michael) Rafacz, and the late Ronald Matthew, who is survived by his wife Cynthia Matthew; cherished grandfather of: Elizabeth (Doug) Stull, Matthew (Jennifer) Rafacz, Todd Rafacz, and Christine (Ian) McPartlin; and great-grandfather of: Ryan and Laura Stull. Howard was preceded in death by his sister: Margaret Jones of Pawnee, IL. Family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way, Frankfort, IL 60423, on Friday, September 13th, 2013 from 11:00 AM until time of Funeral Service at 1:00 PM. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Shriner's Children's Hospital, appreciated.
