Scott Michael Reiter passed away peacefully on June 22, 2023. He married Mary Beth (Devine) on Dec 28, 1974. A lifelong resident of Will County, Scott attended St Jude School New Lenox, Providence Catholic High School, University of New Brunswick (Survey Engineering) and Governors State University (Masters of Public Administration). He owned and operated two businesses: Reiter and Associates Land Surveying and Schoolhouse Storage after serving 8 years as the Chief Subdivision Engineer for Will County. In his post-retirement years he enjoyed being a real estate broker part-time to keep his finger on the market.
Scott is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Beth. They spent many happy winters in Arizona and quite a few summers at the New Buffalo Marina in Michigan. They are the proud parents of five children: Dr Michael (Meredith), Matthew (Kate), Molly (Tom Boland), Martin (Vaiva), and Mark (Vanessa). Left to cherish his memory are his beloved grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as "Bebop": Gabriela, Mary Frances, James, Ruth, Mary Jayne, Annie, Liam, Sean, Bridget, Matas, Adrianna, Gia, Clare, and Quinten Scott. Survivors also include his sister Monica O'Brien, Chris Glynn, Jerry and Peggy Idstein, Jack and Tonia Devine.
Scott will always be remembered for his devotion to his wife and children. He was the number one fan and supporter of his children, attending decades of their sporting events and extracurricular pursuits. He coached grade school basketball and some high school hockey. He always loved cars and racing, owning five Corvettes in his lifetime. In earlier years, he raced go karts with his sons and was track champion at the Norway Speedway. He was a lifelong White Sox fan, making sure all his kids were part of the Silver and Black pack and selected the games to go to based on the giveaways.
A proud proponent of Catholic education, he provided for 72 years of Catholic education for his five children and was a longtime supporter of Providence Catholic High School. He was very proud to be honored by Providence with their Cor Unum Award and Athletic Benefactor Award after decades of service and support.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth (Keigher) and George Reiter, sister Georgia Reiter Glynn, infant sister Joyce Reiter and Bob and Mary Therese Devine.
