Shirley Carol Fouts

Shirley Carol Boswell Fouts (89) went home to heaven in the afternoon of May 2, 2022. Born on April 22, 1933 in Harvey, Illinois Shirley was the third of four daughters born to the Samuel and Mattie Boswell. Her childhood was spent in Harvey where she met her lifelong sweetheart, Eugene (Gene) Fouts. On January 18, 1953 Gene and Shirley were married and later moved to New Lenox, Illinois.

Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 69 years Gene, their two children Cindy (Walt) Arnhold and Gary (Jamee) Fouts, three grandchildren Tom (Christina) Slick, Stephanee (Rob) Dupre, and Tiffanee Fouts, and five great grandchildren, Macie and Lucas Slick and Rilee, Austin, and Colton Dupre, her sister Barbara Burks (Everett), preceded in death by her parents Sam and Mattie Boswell, and her sisters Virginia DeHart (Donald) and Vera Caschetta (Horace).

Shirley will always be remembered for her quick sense of humor and infectious laugh. If you ever had the pleasure of meeting her, odds are you left with a full belly and a smile on your face. The family recalls countless vacations spent playing games, doing puzzles (a favorite pastime of Shirley’s) and making many wonderful memories. Shirley worked in food service at Lincoln-Way school district for 27 years and is a longtime member of Ridgewood Baptist Church in Joliet, Illinois.

Family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 East Francis Road, New Lenox, IL 60451 on Thursday, May 5th, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again on Friday, May 6th, 2022 from 9:30 AM until time of the funeral service at 10:30 AM. Interment, Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood IL. In Lieu of flowers donations to Lightways Hospice or Ridgewood Baptist Church Benevolent Fund would be greatly appreciated.
