Agnes Irene Newman (Irene), born in Harvey IL on Sept. 19th, 1930, was called to the lord on Jan. 2nd. Preceded her were her parents, Thomas and Agnes Rogers who came from Scotland in the 1920’s. Irene was forever married for 46 years to John Richard Newman, (Dick), who passed on Aug. 27, 1997. She was the loving and cherished mother of Doug (Linda) Newman, Bruce Newman and Janice (Clarence) Overby. Grandmother to Kyle and Austin Overby, Matthew (Michelle) Newman, Paige (Nathan) Troester, Logan Newman and Great Grandmother to Reid Newman. Irene was a graduate of Fenger H.S. and a resident of Colonial Village IL, Homewood IL and Englewood FL, where she made many friends and was active in her churches. She was perhaps the last living member of her Colonial Village church friends, “the Mariners”. Among her many gifts, she was a great baker, seamstress and she was kind and generous to all. She always put others before herself. Irene loved the lake and ocean and was an avid golfer with 3 hole-in-ones to her name. She was also written up in the Tribune for making a triple play in softball as a teenager. Irene was truly a soft spoken Scottish lady who kept her heritage alive. She will be forever missed. In her memory, please send donations to Marley Oaks Assisted Living in Mokena, IL, or The Joliet Area Community Hospice, Joliet, IL.
There will be a private visitation at Kurtz Memorial Chapel in Frankfort, followed by a family graveside service.
