Heaven became a bit more glamorous with the passing of Anne Marie Barry (nee O’Connor) on December 3, 2019 after 91 stylish years on this earth. Though small in stature, her presence was big, often announcing herself with her high heels before she entered any room. Her love and life spanned the country, with companions from coast to coast, whom she shared stories and updates about her continuously growing family for decades often at the expense of a very high phone bill. Although she lived the remaining years of her life close to family in Illinois, she was born in Brooklyn, never kicking the New York accent despite not having lived there for 60 years. Anne was a devout Catholic, offering prayers daily for her loved ones and attending many parishes whom she cherished throughout her lifetime. Anne joins her beloved (and much taller) husband, Walter J. Barry in eternal rest as well as her parents Edward and Anne O’Connor and brother Dr. Luke O’Connor. She will be sorely missed and cherished by her children Walter (Therese) Barry and Ann (Charles) Davis. She was a loving and proud grandmother to Patrick (Lindsay) Barry, Annie (JP) Davis-Korelc, Chaz (Ali) Davis, Edward (Amanda) Davis, Brian (Alexis) Davis, Matt (Tarah) Davis, and Christian Davis. ‘Gigi’’s legacy will live on in her very well-dressed great-grandchildren, Reese, Morgan and Wes Barry as well as Josie, Frances, Ty, Charlie and Sammy Davis. Anne’s friendship and kindness will also be missed by sisters Geraldine (late Walter) Stankewick and Ellen (late James) Block and sister-in-law Betty O’Connor. She was a devoted friend and style icon to many. Her services will be held at St. Mary’s Church, Mokena with visitation from 9-11AM with mass to follow. She will be laid to rest next to her loving husband at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mokena. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Charities.
