ARTHUR R. GOTTSCHALK


Age 95, born in Chicago, a resident of Frankfort, formerly of Park Forest and Flossmoor, Arthur passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 with his family by his side. Loving husband of Norma Gottschalk (Schaloske); beloved father of Betsy Gottschalk, Nancy G. Murphy, and Sally (late Sam) Cimmarusti; dearest son of the late Charles and late Esther (Roseberg) Gottschalk; fond brother of the late Charles V. (late Jeanette “Jan”) Gottschalk; cherished grandfather of David (fiancée Breanne McGarvie) Cimmarusti and Amy (Cameron) Gunderson; and proud great grandfather of Cole and Reed Gunderson.

As a veteran of the United States Army, Arthur served in World War II, was a Purple Heart recipient, and landed on Utah Beach on D-Day. While attending the University of Illinois – Urbana, he received his law degree and met his beloved wife of 70 years. Arthur was general counsel for Reuben H. Donnelley, served as a police magistrate of Park Forest, and was an Illinois State Senator from 1960-1969. As senator, Arthur sponsored legislation to establish the Illinois Department of Economic Development and the Department of Children & Family Services. Before retirement, he served as President of the Illinois Manufacturers Association.

His loved ones will miss his wisdom, warmth, humor, and gifted storytelling.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a celebration of Arthur’s life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
