Barb spent her early year in the suburbs of Detroit. She enjoyed her family and all the events with aunts, uncles and cousins. Barb attended Hillsdale College and received her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. At Hillsdale she was inducted in Phi Beta Pi sorority. Later Barb received her Masters Degree in Education from Illinois State University.
Barbara began teaching in Waterloo, Iowa. After a year and a half she moved to LaGrange, II. and started teaching in District 102. She taught at Goodman school for many years establishing a strong friendship with many parents and students. After Goodman closed she taught at Cossitt and Congress Park Schools. During her teaching career she was inducted into Delta Kappa Gamma, a professional honorary organization for women teachers.
Barbara's hobbies included reading, racquet ball, and bowling. She loved to travel and many Easter breaks were spent in Maui and also Colorado, and New Orleans. Later she enjoyed Sweden.Travers City, Door County, Racine and Mexico.
Barbara retired early and began to help design and build a house in New Lenox. After moving to New Lenox Barbara became active in the First Presbyterian Church of Joliet serving on many councils and becoming an Elder in the Church. Her special passion was visiting church shut-ins.
Barbara is preceded in death by her father Harold Brock and mother Juliette Brock. Left to cherish her memory are close friend and companion Judith Franzen of New Lenox, IL., sister Kathleen (Jerry) Wilharm of Maryville, Tn., brother Robert (Pat) Brock of Waterloo, la., nieces Katie Olenek, Sara (Matt) Doede, Kari Brock, and Erin (Josh) Medhus, many grand and great grand nephews grand and great grand nieces.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Kurtz Memorial Chapel 102 E Francis Rd, New Lenox, IL at 10AM. A service for Barbara will follow at 11AM. Interment will be Monday, March 11, 2024 at Irving Park Cemetery 7777 W Irving Park Rd, Irving Park, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Hawkeye Community College Foundation Brock Scholarship Fund - 1501 East Orange Rd PO BOX 8015 Wqaterloo, Iowa 50704-8015 or TLC Animal Shelter 130 West 151st St Homer Glen, IL 60491 or any charity of your choice.
