Betty A. Cleveland (nee Haas)
Age 91, passed away Friday, December 13, 2024, at her home in New Lenox, IL. Betty was born in Joliet to the late Walter and Florence (nee Cutler) Haas. She grew up on a farm in Marley, later moved to Frankfort and eventually on to New Lenox, where she lived in the same house for 67 years.
She was a dedicated, loyal wife to Lloyd for 48 years upon his passing in 2001. Loving mother of Dennis (Rebecca) Cleveland, Gary (Lorna) Cleveland, and LuAnn (Douglas) McClure; cherished grandmother of Britt (Katrina) Cleveland, Clayton (Jessica) Cleveland, Parker Cleveland, Carson (Christine) Cleveland, Cody (Paige) Cleveland, Joseph Winter, Kimberly (Peter) Nanos, Jay (Vanessa) Cleveland, Morgan (Evan) Forester, and Nolan (Carrie) McClure; proud great grandmother of Charlotte, Crosby, Camille, Canaan, Kennedi, Cadence, Clara, and Catherine Cleveland, Riley, Delaney, and Haley Nanos, Kepler, Kirkley, and Camden Forester, Colton, Collins, Lucy, and Molly McClure; dear sister of the late Wesley (Carol) Haas.
Betty was a graduate of Joliet Township High School. Her early careers consisted of being a bank teller at the New Lenox State Bank, clerical work for Country Companies and finally a co-owner/florist for The Flower Basket, in New Lenox, which was open for 29 years. In her later years, she volunteered at Silver Cross Hospital and the New Lenox Historical Society. She was active in the local Garden Club, the “Chit, Chat, and Chew” club of local friends, and a member of the New Lenox Methodist Church.
Betty was an avid morning walker in the cold, rain, or shine, had a love for chocolate, enjoyed flowers, gardening and clipping newspaper articles. She will be remembered as a quiet, humble, and sweet lady to all that she met. Betty was loved and cherished by her family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Memorials in Betty’s name can be made to the New Lenox Area Historical Society to honor her life and passion for local history.
The family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel 102 E. Francis Rd, New Lenox, IL on Sunday, December 22, 2024, from 2 pm – 6 pm. Funeral Services Monday, December 23, 2024, at United Methodist Church of New Lenox, IL with visitation from 9:00 am until time of Funeral Service at 10:00 am. Interment to follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Frankfort, IL.
