Smith, Carroll Marshall, 92 of Park Forest, IL since 1966 passed away on Aug. 2, 2024. Husband of 67 years to Ruth Smith (nee Laidig). Father of Lesle (Brian) Wolfe, Lisa (Gary) Heu, Carroll Alan (Laura) Smith, Philip Andrew (Angela) Smith, Jay Alexander (Dawn) Smith. Grandfather of Jennifer Heu, Steve (Jackie) D’Onofrio, Jeremy (Mary) Orbe, Jason (Felicia) Orbe, Linnea (Luka) Kalaionamoku, Heather (Ron) Parks, Phoebe (TJ Ratchko) Wolfe, Sarah Smith, Kylie Smith, Erin (Andrew) Patra, Molly (Denis) Keljalic, TJ (Morgan) Holmes, Samantha Holmes, Noah (Amber) Smith, Isaac Smith and great-grandfather of 22. Brother of Mary Janet Smith Collins, uncle of Jim (Mary Lee) Collins and Jana Collins. Preceded by parents Olga (Gibbens) and Carroll Marshall Smith, Sr. and granddaughter Shayna Peachey. Born Sept. 23, 1931 in Hutchinson, KS, Carroll earned BS and MS in Pharmacy from U of Kansas, PhD in Pharmacology from U of Kansas Medical School, Post-Doctoral Public Health Grant at U of IL Medical School. He worked at Neisler Labs in Decatur, IL and Armor Pharmaceuticals (now CSL Behring in Kankakee. After Carroll retired from research he worked at South Suburban Pharmacy and volunteered at PADS and as a pharmacist for Access Healthcare. He served as a Sunday school teacher, trustee, deacon and elder at the First Presbyterian Church of Chicago Heights, IL and was a member of the choir. Carroll sang with the First United Methodist Church Choir in Lansing, IL and Park Forest Singers, now Grand Prairie Singers. He was also known as "Mysterious Smith", the magician. Memorials may be directed to the Memorial Fund of the First Pres. Church of Chicago Heights or to the First United Methodist Church of Lansing, IL. A private celebration of life will be held in Hutchinson, Kansas and inurnment in the columbarium at First United Methodist Church of Lansing, IL at a future date.
