Eva Lee Vaught, 98, of Markham passed away in her sleep at Prairie Manor in Chicago Heights on October 11, 2023. Wife of 65 years of the late William Troy Vaught, Sr. Mother of late William Troy, Jr. (late Monika) Vaught, late Roger Lee Vaught, Ronald Lynn (Deanna) Vaught, Robert Sherwood (Laurie) Vaught and Barbara Ann (Roy) Gerston. Grandmother of Shawn Canning Sr., Corey (Taryn), Jeremy (Joelle), Jessica (Manny), Amy (Joe), Brianne, Melissa, Zach, Kristin, Eric, Jameson Vaught. Great grandmother of Shawn Jr, Jay, Haley, Hannah, Olivia, Isabella. Eva was born Eva Lee Ware on Sept., 5, 1925 in Franklin County, GA. She was the 11th of 21 children born to Mary Ann and Claud Ware. Eva came up North to find job opportunities in the mills where her older sisters had. It was in Chicago where Eva met William Troy Vaught when he was a Marine staying at the Great Lakes Naval Base. They married and raised a beautiful family of five children in Markham, IL. Later Eva would work as a dispatcher for the Markham Police Dept. where she retired from. She was a devoted and active member of Markham Lutheran Church and the Markham VFW Post 9801 until her later years. Memorial Visitation will be held on Thur., Oct. 19, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. until time of Memorial Service at 7:30 p.m. at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way, Frankfort, IL 60423. Interment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL where her urn will be buried with her husband. Memorials may be directed in Eva Lee Vaught’s name to Markham Lutheran Church, 3518 W. 160th St. Markham, IL 60428.
