Floyd K. Garrett
Floyd was born in Joliet, and died in Elwood on January 3, 2016 at the age of 86. He was the son of the late Floyd B. and Helen (nee Behrend) Garrett. Preceded in death by his wife Nina (nee Wadsworth) Garrett, a sister Mary Evelyn Girot and numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving bravely and proudly in the Korean War. Survived by his children Kathy (Marek) Szymanski, Gail (Phil) Bauer, Patricia (Tom) Burke, Mary (Rudy) Wolf, Joe (Pam) Garrett and Colleen (Gregg) Ferlin; fifteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a sister Jean McPartlin; dear friend Jean and many friends. Floyd was former owner of Garrett Ceramic Tile. He served on the Elwood Planning Commission, was a Volunteer at Abraham National Cemetery, a Lifetime Member at Stone City VFW, former board member of Area #1 Outdoor Club and usher, past board member and member of Holy Name Society at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, Joliet. Floyd, nicknamed "Tuffy", would like to let you know that his work here is done. He received an offer for endless fishing, a boat load of diet Pepsi and a reunion with family and friends that he has not seen in a long time. His legacy and endless stories live on in his children, grandchildren and friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his name to St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, 201 S. Briggs St, Joliet, IL 60433 or Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Honor Squad, 20953 W. Hoff Rd, Elwood, IL 60421. Family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Rd., New Lenox, IL 60451 for a Memorial Visitation on Thursday, January 7, 2016 from 4-8PM. Everyone will meet at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, Joliet on Friday, January 8, 2016 for 10:00AM Mass. Inurnment with Military Honors at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.
