GAVIN “GUY” WEIR
Age 90, of Frankfort, passed away Saturday, July 17th, 2021 at Lightways Hospice House in Joliet.
Guy is survived by his loving family, wife, Arlene Weir (Horslev), children, Kimberly (Jim) Dawson, Lynette (Bruce) Smith, Gavin (Michele) Weir, grandchildren, Ketra Dawson, Gavin Dawson, Austin Smith, Alexis (Caleb) Henderson, Dr. Gavin Weir, Dillon Weir and great granddaughter Avery Henderson.
Guy was preceded in death by his parents, Gavin & Mary Weir (Reid) and sister Ann Maliska-Jacobsen.
Guy was a United States Army Veteran and will be remembered for his commitment to his family, leadership in the banking industry, giving back, and his strong work ethic, and long-time personal and business friendships.
Guy’s career in banking started with Pullman Bank & Trust, where he worked his way through various departments which led him to Standard Bank and advancing to President at County Bank. In 1970, Guy took a big step in his career and transferred to Chicago City Bank and Trust (CCB), where he became President and Chairman of the Board. In 1999, Guy sold CCB and continued as a Board Member of FBOP Corp, assisting in the transition to the new owners. During his banking career, Guy believed in an open-door policy. He mentored everyone as best he could with guidance, advice, and his time. Retirement did not come easy for Guy. During his banking career, he served as President of the Illinois Bankers Association along with holding a position on the Leadership Council of the American Bankers Association.
Outside of banking, Guy served on several boards at various levels, including Allied Tube and Conduit Co.; South Town Planning Committee; Economic Club of Chicago; YPO; Jaycees; Roseland Community Hospital (President); Saint Bernard Hospital (President); St. Francis Hospital (President); Mercy Hospital (President); Mercy Health Care and Rehabilitation Center (President) and Olympia Fields Country Club (President). Guy was committed to many charitable organizations, including Misericordia, Western Golf Association, Evans Scholars Foundation, and 100 Club of Illinois.
Guy was athletic throughout his life, playing football with the Gardner Park organization and later while in the army at Ft. Lee, VA playing on the “Ft. Lee Travelers” team. An avid golfer, he played in many golf tournaments at Olympia Fields CC and Coral Ridge CC in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and always playing in the annual Western Open Pro-Am. He also enjoyed sunshine and spending time with his family at his lake home on Diamond Lake.
A Celebration of Guy's Life will be held on Saturday, August 7th, 2021 at Olympia Fields Country Club, 2800 Country Club Drive, Olympia Fields, IL 60461. Family and friends are invited to join the family for a 2:00 PM service in memory of Guy, followed by a reception 2:45 PM to 4:30 PM.
A private burial will be held.
