GERALD "JERRY" M. GIBSON
Gerald "Jerry" M. Gibson "Gibby" 72 of New Lenox left us suddenly on Sunday March 13, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orland and Arlene (Mooneyham) Gibson, a brother, Garald Gibson, and a son, Gerald Gibson. Jerry leaves behind a loving wife of 48 years, Linda (Johnson) Gibson and his beloved children, Deborah (Gibson) Corbin (Jeff) of Manhattan and Matthew Gibson (Renetta) of Longwood, FL. The void Jerry leaves behind will forever be felt by his loving granddaughters, Rebecca Corbin, Kyra Gibson, Kylie Gibson, and Kaya Gibson, who were responsible for the bright sparkle in his eyes. He is survived by three siblings, Ronald Gibson (Marilyn), Raymond Gibson (Dianne), and Patricia (Gibson) Ward (David), aunts, uncles, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Jerry was born in Chicago, IL and attended Argo High School. He served his Country from June of 1965 through May of 1967 in the U.S Army. After his dedicated service, Jerry returned home to work for his father in their family owned business, Gibby's Plumbing, which Jerry eventually co-owned with his brothers. He moved to New Lenox in 1972 with his family and served the community as a Township Board Member for 15 years, Park District Board Member for 6 years/President for 4 years, Lion's Club Member and past President, and youth softball/baseball coach. He was the Plumbing Inspector for the villages of Manhattan and New Lenox, serving New Lenox for 25 years. Jerry was a generous soul that never missed an opportunity to lend a hand and loved his neighbors like family. Everything he did was done with great passion, which included living a life of constant activity. Jerry was an avid golfer and bowler and loved sports of all types. He was a true Chicago Fan, always showing his support for the Blackhawks, Bears, and the White Sox. A visitation will be held for Jerry at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way, Frankfort, IL 60423 on Thursday March 17th from 2pm – 9pm. A funeral service will be held at the Kurtz Memorial Chapel on Friday March 18th at 9:30am with an honorable journey to Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood IL for a burial service at 11:30am.
