James C. Hirsch “J.C.”, 68 of Munster, IN passed away on Sept. 2, 2024 at his home in Santa Rosa, Mexico. Through his 11 month cancer journey he was supported by family: husband, Klay Neri Hurtado, children: Lelia (Anthony) Hirsch-Amadio, David (Sarah) Hirsch, Emma Rogers, Carl (Liz) Hirsch, grandchildren: Anthony, Jameson, Ray, Cooper, Jackson, Otto, Knox and Josephine, Mother, Barbara (late James W.) Hirsch, sisters: Charlotte (Steve) Gasser, Mary St. Pierre, Mother of his children, Cynthia Gliottoni Wheeler. Born in Chicago Heights, J.C. grew up in Miller Woods, graduate of Bloom Township High School Class of 1973. Attended Iowa State University, Prairie State College, graduate of Worsham College of Mortuary Science. He worked as a funeral director his entire career, which he considered a calling, serving as owner operator of Hirsch Funeral Homes until 1995 and owner of Heartland Memorial Center until his retirement in 2017. He lived in Breckenridge, CO for a number of years while raising his children. There he owned and operated Rapid Rentals and AHHA Services. He enjoyed nature, cooking, gardening, traveling, literature, and the arts. With friends of all walks of life throughout the world, he will be deeply missed by all fortunate to have known him and the numerous dogs he had. A Wake and Funeral Mass followed by cremation and inurnment was held in Mexico. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 8th, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way, Frankfort, IL. Memorial Visitation 10:00 a.m. until the time of Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 9th, 2024 at First Presbyterian Church in Chicago Heights, 900 Thomas St., Chicago Heights, IL.
