James William Mabe, (80), of Mokena, IL, a devoted husband and father and life-long Cubs fan went home to be with the Lord on the early morning of September 27th, 2024, surrounded at home by his family.
Jim was born on October 24, 1943, to James and Margaret Mabe in Bluefield, WV. He was married to the love of his life Hattie for 53 years. He dedicated his life to his family and worked selflessly to provide a wonderful life for them. He took great pride in being a great dad to his two daughters and Papa to his three beautiful grandchildren. Even though he struggled with many health concerns, you would never know it as he always had a smile on his face, cracking jokes, and making other people laugh.
In his spare time, you would find him happily mowing his lawn, tinkering or working on a project in his garage, and laughing with his dear neighborhood friends. In his earlier years, he loved golfing and fishing, especially with his grand kids. He always lit up even when they caught the tiniest fish. One of his most favorite hobbies was ball-hawking – and he joyfully shared his golf balls with anyone that would want them.
He worked at the EMD Division of General Motors in LaGrange, IL as a Quality Control Inspector for nearly 40 years. He greatly enjoyed working every day and looked forward to seeing his work buddies.
Jim never met a stranger and was loved by everyone that knew him. The amount of love that has been shown to him over the years, especially by his devoted wife, all his wonderful Doctors and caregivers will never be forgotten and we will forever be grateful.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife Hattie Mabe, two daughters Lisa Schaack (Scott) of Dacula, GA, Cindy Turay (Jeff) Manhattan, IL, his dear sisters Nancy Blake (Odenton) Maryland and Lindy Asbury (Jim) Bristol, VA, cherished brother-In-law Bill Gardner of Princeton, WV, and his dearly loved grandchildren Colin and Cami Schaack and Rachel Turay. He was a fond Uncle and Great-Uncle to many Nieces and Nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents James and Margaret Mabe (Princeton, WV), sisters Jean Fulcher (Bill) of Oakvale, WV, Janice Kobel (Tom) of Princeton, WV, Judy Padulla (Nick) of Oregon, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Parker Road Bible Church where Jim loved serving and worshipping the Lord with so many dear friends. You can donate at: subsplash.com/u/parkerroadbible/give
