77, of New Lenox passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at his home. John was born in Harvey, IL to the late Elizabeth (nee Hipp) Groeneveld Cowen and the late John C. Groeneveld Sr. Beloved husband of Bonnie (nee Fell); loving father of Kim (Brian) Smith and Janis (John) Bautz; cherished grandfather of Kourtney (Kenny) Schultz, Mitchell Bautz, Kloie Bautz, R.J. Smith, and Klaire Bautz; dear brother of the late James A (late Ruth) Groeneveld, late Donald J (late Marie) Groeneveld, late Ilene (late Peter) Spoolstra, Kenneth (Anna Mae) Groeneveld, late Elizabeth Groeneveld, late John Morris Groeneveld, and Edward (Margo) Cowen; loved uncle of many. John was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. He was employed as a Master Mechanic for the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago for 30 years retiring in 1997. The family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, New Lenox on Saturday, June 12, 2021 from 9:00am until time of Funeral Service at 11:00am. Interment with full military honors will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL on Monday, June 21, 2021 at 1:00pm with procession from the funeral home beginning at 12:00pm.
