John A. Giroux (91) of Mokena, Illinois, passed away at his home on February 22, 2025, with family by his side. John, was born to Dennis and Hazel Giroux, on February 21, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois. He started working at Kroger while attending Fenger High School in Chicago and continued employment there until being drafted into the Army in September 1956. He was stationed in Germany where he worked in the military police and received the Good Conduct Medal for Rifle Marksmanship. It was while stationed in Germany that John met and married the love of his life, Edeltraut Föst and over the next 66 1/2 years together, the couple built a family that includes 6 children, 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren - and continues to grow. John returned to the U.S. with his wife in 1959 and completed his service obligation in the Reserves until his honorable discharge in 1962. Over the years he worked again at Kroger, then many years for the Gerber baby food company, Barron-Eisner Foods of Wilmington and, finally he retired from F&M Distributors. In his free time, John enjoyed bowling and reading, and in his younger years golf. Having been born on the South Side, he was an avid White Sox fan come rain or shine (and in his 91 years there were many more years of rain than shine in that venue). He also was very dedicated in his support of many charitable causes such as: St. Jude Children's Hospital, Disabled American Veterans, National Federation of the Blind and various Native American causes. But his biggest passion was his Catholic faith, and in particular, his love of the Traditional Latin Mass, which he attended for many years at St. Thomas More in Chicago and in recent years St. James at Sag Bridge in Lemont. John is survived by his wife Edeltraut, his children; Jackie Quinones, Sue Brandt (Don), Karin Rousey, Dennis Giroux (Jennifer), Cindy Jones (Wes), Kevin Giroux (Laurie), grandchildren; Jana Giroux, Larry Hoogstraten (Nicole), David Hoogstraten (Mariela), Emily Brandt, Naia Brandt, Reed Brandt, Toni Insalata, Joseph Insalata, Jacob Insalata, Grace Giroux, Kate Giroux, Lauren Jones and Rachel Jones, and great grandchildren; Kaylie, Miley, Kora, Kaleb, Kadence, Klover, Liam and Camila.
Preceding him in peace were his parents, Dennis and Hazel Giroux and siblings; Jean Scherer, Betty Hudspeth, Robert Giroux (Mickie), and Charlotte Allen.
