John Stephen Detrick, Sr.

John Stephen Detrick, Sr. age 80, a resident of Frankfort formerly of Roseland, passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 12, 2022. Loving husband of Ida Detrick (Melita); beloved father of John (Roberta) Detrick, Jr. and Matthew (Charity) Detrick; dearest brother of the late Anna Mae "Mazie" Detrick; cherished grandfather of Mary Detrick and the late Anthony Detrick. John is a veteran of the United States Army serving in Vietnam. John also attended Northern Illinois University where he majored in music. He was an avid Cubs fan. John worked in the healthcare industry working in many nursing/rehab facilities, always as the executive director. At the time of his retirement he was working with Peace Village in Palos Park. He enjoyed trains, fishing, golf, building model airplanes and boats, playing the violin and trumpet, listening to Baroque classical music. He was a member of Alcohol Anonyms with 40 years of sobriety he was known there as Big Book John. A visitation will be held at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way Frankfort, IL 60423 on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, from 9:00 am until10:30 AM with a funeral service in the funeral home chapel at 10:30 AM. Interment with military honors at American Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to St. Jude's Childrens research hospital would be appreciated.
