Lawrence R. Rudman, age 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 2, 2024 at The Cottages in New Lenox.
Lawrence is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Celeste (nee Blaskievich) Rudman; sons, Steven (Michelle) Rudman and Matthew Rudman; grandchildren, Ethan, Madelyn, and Mary Kathryn Rudman; his sister Sharon Kocenko; his nieces, Pamela Kocenko, Kris (late Glenn) North, and Breeze Bennu; and his nephews, Joseph (Rory) Kocenko, James (Jennifer) Kocenko, Greg (Cathy) Schultz, and Jeff Schultz, and Richard (Carol) Blaskievich.
He is preceded in death by his parents Lawrence C. Rudman and Bernice (nee Nagra) Rudman.
Lawrence was born August 31, 1931, in Joliet, IL. He attended Joliet Schools and graduated Joliet Township High School in January of 1950. Just prior to graduation, Lawrence joined the Naval Reserve on April 9, 1949, and was called for active duty in November of 1951. Lawrence proudly served on the U.S.S. Missouri during the Korean War. He was discharged in April of 1953. After his service he began work for the Joliet Post Office as a Letter Carrier and did that for 14 years. Lawrence and his wife Celeste moved to New Lenox in March of 1964. He then moved on to work for ComEd Station 29 for 26 years where he would ultimately retire from. He was a member and former usher of St. Jude Catholic Church in New Lenox, member of the Knights of Columbus, and VFW Post 9545.
Lawrence enjoyed Glenn Miller and polka music. He liked to dance the polka in his younger years. His interests were military films, especially WWII, the Chicago Cubs, Norte Dame Football, and Chicago Bears.
Services for Lawrence will begin on Monday, August 12, 2024 with a visitation from 4pm until 8pm. Services will continue the following day, Tuesday, August 13, 2024 with a Mass of Christian Burial, being held at St. Jude Catholic Church, 241 E. 2nd Street in New Lenox at 10am. Lawrence will be laid to rest at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with full military honors.
