Leo Xydis of New Lenox and formerly of Thana, Greece, 83, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family after a short battle with cancer. May his memory be eternal.
Beloved and devoted husband to Angela (they recently celebrated 50 years of marriage), father to Christina (Michael) Willner, Kathy, Bobby, and John, and grandfather to Eleana, Nick, Andrew, and Mikey Willner. Dear son of the late Haralambos and Christina Xydis. Dearest brother and brother-in-law of George, the late Eleftheria (the late George) Katris, Anthoula (Theo) Barlas, the late Kostas, Peter (Georgia), Anna (Nick) Bozonelos, Katina (Spiro) Dravilas.
Dear son-in-law to the late Ioannis and Aikaterini Sifountou. Dearest brother-in-law of Elisavet (Ioannis) Skoulatakis, Gina Sifountou, Ioanna Sifountou, Demetra (the late Kostas) Tsouknidas, the late Christina (Kyriakos) Klimis. Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews in the United States, Greece, and Australia.
Leo served as a Second Lieutenant in the Greek military. Afterwards, he obtained his associates degree in teaching. After living in the United States and Australia for a period of time, he traveled back to Greece and met his wife Angela. They married in 1972 in Tripoli, Greece and shortly after they settled down in the Chicago area and eventually New Lenox where they raised their family.
In 1977, Leo and his brothers bought an A&W restaurant in New Lenox and turned it into the New Lenox Family Restaurant, which they proudly operated for thirty years. He was a beloved, respected and active member of the community. Leo was a hard-working and entrepreneurial man who took great pride in his family and his work. Leo will be dearly missed by family and friends alike.
Visitation Sunday, March 12th, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM with the Trisagion Service at 6:00 PM at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Rd, New Lenox, IL 60451. Family and Friends are asked to meet Monday, March 13th, 2023 at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 102 N. Broadway, Joliet, IL 60435 for a funeral service at 10:00 AM. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Joliet IL.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made on his behalf to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church or Lightways Hospice in Joliet, IL. Kurtz Memorial Chapel, New Lenox will be handling all arrangements.
