Leonard R. Gaikowski
Age 99, of Tinley Park, IL formerly of Glenwood, IL passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, April 8, 2025. Leonard was born in Chicago, IL to the late Michael and Helen (nee Padzer) Gaikowski.
Beloved husband of Mary (nee Pascarella) Gaikowski for over 75 years; loving father of Robert (Michaeline) Gaikowski, Susan (late Thomas) Corrigan, and Kenneth (Andrea) Gaikowski; cherished grandfather of Sara (Kevin) McInerney, Amanda (fiancé Chad Hanley) Gaikowski, Emily Gaikowski Knight, and Christine (James) Murphy; proud great grandfather of Tyler Knight, Dylan Knight, Maven McInerney, James Murphy, and Addison Murphy; dear brother of the late Emily (late Jack) Weber, the late Edmund (late Helen) Gaikowski, and Michael (late Delores) Gaikowski; loved uncle, cousin, and friend of many.
Leonard retired as Vice President of Pullman Bank, where he met his wife, Mary. He was a member of St. George Catholic Church in Tinley Park, IL. Leonard was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army Air Forces. He was an airplane enthusiast and an avid pinochle player, enjoyed reading and everything related to astronomy. He was a passionate golfer, he spent countless joyful hours on the greens, finding peace and camaraderie in every swing. He was our Mr. Fix it, always willing to try and figure out a "temporary forever."
The family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel 102 E. Francis Rd, New Lenox, IL on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, from 3 pm – 8 pm. Everyone will meet at St. George Catholic Church, Tinley Park, IL on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, for Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at Good Shepherd Cemetery, Orland Park, IL.
