Linda Brockway Meester grew up in Grundy Center, Iowa and attended Grundy Center Community schools, graduating from high school in 1967. She attended the University of Northern Iowa. While at UNI she started dating Delmar Meester. They were married on February 1, 1969. After getting married the couple moved to Dubuque, Iowa where Delmar attended seminary. Linda earned a bachelor of music education from Illinois State University and a master of music education from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. She taught music in the various places where Delmar served as pastor—Springfield, Illinois; Troy, Illinois; Dearborn, Michigan; Oak Park, Illinois; North Port, Florida; and Chicago Heights, Illinois. In 2014 Delmar and Linda retired in Aurora, Illinois. In 2017, Linda suffered a stroke a day after back surgery. She has had numerous health issues during the last several years. She enjoyed sewing, music, doing counted cross-stitch, reading the Bible, and she simply enjoyed life. She was known for her big smile and kind heart. She will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bruce and Jean Brockway, and by a sister, Elsie Jean Wilson. She is survived by her husband Delmar and son Jonathan. She is also survived by six siblings: Willard Brockway (Carol Hodgen), Dianne Abels (J Arthur), Bette Ota (David), Beth Bockes (Roger), Cheryl Ford (Stephen); and Edwin Brockway (Pam). She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Family was very important to her. Linda entered the Church Triumphant on December 21, 2021. A Celebration of Linda’s Life will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Chicago Heights, on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
