Martin G. Delismon

December 1, 1944 — January 11, 2025

Martin G. Delismon, 80, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025.

Martin, known as Marty, lived a life defined by honor, integrity, and a faithful commitment to serving his country. Raised in Lansing, IL, Marty graduated from T.F. South High School in 1964 before answering the call to serve. He joined the United States Marine Corps and proudly completed two tours of duty in the Vietnam War. Marty’s dedication and bravery earned him an honorable discharge in 1968. True to the Marine Corps' creed, "Once a Marine, always a Marine," Marty carried the values of honor, courage, and commitment with him throughout his life.

After returning to civilian life, Marty began a career with ComEd, where he retired as a Foreman after decades of dedicated service. Even in retirement, Marty remained deeply committed to honoring and supporting the military. He was an active and proud member of the V.F.W., serving in multiple Officer positions. He also served in the Memorial Squad at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, where he honored fellow veterans by presenting military burial honors for many years.

Marty enjoyed pastimes including fishing, hunting, target shooting, riding Harley Davidson motorcycles and the comraderie of his fellow veterans. He was an avid reader with a deep interest in military history, further demonstrating his devotion as a Marine. A quiet and thoughtfully observant man by nature, Marty had a lively side; while thoughtfully considering others' perspectives, he wasn't shy about speaking up when a topic ignited his passion, often leading to spirited debates or the sharing of a memorable story.

In keeping with his lifetime of devotion to his country, he will be laid to rest with military honors at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery on a later date.

Marty is survived by his wife of 30 years, Patricia; daughter, Adrienne (Ricardo) and their children; step-daughters, Lisa and Michelle (Jack) and their respective children; brother, Ronald (late Janice), nephew and nieces.
