Mary Irene Stancik

Stancik, Mary Irene (nee Brizek) of Orland Park, IL age 93, a resident of Orland Park formerly of Chicago, passed away on Friday, September 3, 2021.

Beloved wife of the late (Edward Stancik). Loved mother of sons; Richard Finlayson, Martin (Gail) Finlayson and Jim (Lisa) Stancik. Grandmother of Ryan Finlayson, Ryder Finlayson and Maggie Karns. Great Grandmother of 11. Caring sister of the late (Helen (John) Hencinski), late Frank (Mel) Brizek and late Jospeh (Eileen) Brizek. Loved Aunt of Bob Hencinski, Sandie Cox, the late (Frank and Fred Brizek) and Joey Brizek many nephews and nieces. Devoted daughter of the late (Martin and Maria Brizek)


Mary Stancik was the youngest of 6, who grew up in a Slovak immigrant family in southwest side of Chicago. She attended St. Simon’s grade school and St. Casimir’s Academy. In 1950, she met and married Jack Finlayson and had 2 sons Richard and Martin. They divorced in l956.
In 1958, she met and married Ed Stancik and raised a son, Jim Stancik, in addition to her other 2 sons. Their marriage lasted 42 years until the death of her husband in 2000. After her children were grown, she worked and retired from the Metropolitan Sanitary District in 1989.


Mary was outgoing, social, open minded, full of energy, loved to read and was always active with many friends and her gal clubs. She was loyal, generous and faithful. Mary loved her card games, was creative and talked a lot, she “had to have the floor”. Her 3 favorite sayings were – “if I get a better offer”, and – “Is this gonna be a Long Story?”, and finally, - “that’s all I have to say for right now” !!

A visitation will be held at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Road, New Lenox IL 60451 on Sunday, September 12, 2021 from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Funeral Service at All Saints Lutheran Church 13350 S. Lagrange Road on Monday, September 13, 2021 at 10:00 AM lying in state from 9-10 AM. Interment will follow to Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Lemont.
