Mary Josephine Fox (Van Gampler)
Joined the angels in heaven on December 20, 2014 at the age of 85, awaiting her with open arms were her husband Harry (2013) and her son David (2005). Mary J was born in Blue Island on December 24th, raised in Joliet and lived in New Lenox until moving to Michigan/Florida to enjoy retirement. Mary is survived by her children, Lydia (Bernie) Elwood, Gwen (Bill) Elliott, Ron (Cynthia), Robert (Denise Olds) and Barbara (Michael) Studer, 17 grandchildren and 26 great grand-children, her canine companion "Foxy", her sister Norma Fang and many nieces and nephews.
Mary completed nursing school at Silver Cross hospital, and later worked for Dr. Vincent DiGiulio and Dr. Rajendra Choski until her retirement. She loved tending to her family including traveling to different parts of the country to be by them. Mary was the nucleus of her family. Many of times she would have her grandchildren in Michigan with her swimming, skiing, picking blue berries, or cooking out over the open camp fire. She was truly a free spirit. She could do anything. She taught her children and grandchildren to be strong like her. She would tell us often to work hard, save our money, be proud on who you are and say "you girls, act like ladies." The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 28, 2014 from 2-7 PM at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Rd., New Lenox, IL 60451. Funeral service Monday, December 29, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel. Interment Maplewood Cemetery, New Lenox, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice in Mary's name would be appreciated.
