Mary Rita Varkalis

Mary Rita Varkalis 82, of New Lenox formerly of Oak Forest and the Cannaryville neighborhood, was born to the late Steve and Rita Holland and passed away peacefully on February 13, 2025. Beloved wife of the late Michael Varkalis; loving mom of Michael (Tracy) Varkalis and Mark (Heather) Varkalis; proud nana of David (Clair Finnigan) Russell, Alyssa (William Sturwold) Varkalis, Emma Varkalis, and Abigail Varkalis; soon to be great nana of baby girl-June 2025; fond niece of a very special aunt Helen Ahern; dear sister of Stephen Holland; and aunt of many nieces and nephews. Mary loved her family especially her grandchildren, which after her retirement from the Oak Forest Police Department she was able to spend lots of time with them. A visitation will be held at Kurtz Memorial Chapel 102 E. Francis Rd New Lenox, IL on Wednesday February 19, 2025 from 3-8pm. Chapel prayers will be the following morning at the funeral home 9:15am. Funeral Mass will be at St. Mary Magdalene 127 S. Briggs St. Joliet, IL at 10:00am, Interment to follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery Evergreen Park, IL.
