Michael Kobar

Michael L Kobar, age 78, passed away suddenly on Sunday September 3, 2023 at Edward Hines Jr Veterans Hospital.

Michael now joins his beloved wife, Rosemary (Dempsey) who passed away last November.

He is survived by their two daughters, Dawn Conroy, and Amy (Kevin) Bogac; grandchildren, Mitchell Cianci, Justin (Maylyn) Misiora, Madeline Conroy, Owen Howell, Thomas Conroy, Adam (Maria) Bogac; and his much loved nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents Ozzie Kobar and Jaqueline Brannigan (nee Kinsella), his beloved Aunt Delores (nee Kinsella) and Uncle Frank Benson, and Uncle Donald Kinsella.

He was not just a beloved husband, father and grandfather but a true American hero whose sacrifices and dedication to his family and country were beyond measure. His life was marked by remarkable achievements, unwavering loyalty to his beloved wife Rose for over 55 years, and a profound impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Michael’s life was a testament to bravery and valor. He answered the call of duty during one of our nation's most challenging times and served in Vietnam with incredible courage. His exceptional service earned him the Purple Heart, Distinguished Flying Cross, and Bronze Star Medal. These honors are a testament to his unrelenting commitment to his fellow soldiers and the principles of freedom and justice.

While Michael's military achievements are extraordinary, it is equally important to remember the loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather he was. His 55-year journey with his beloved wife Rose was a true love story, a partnership built on trust, loyalty, and unwavering support. Their enduring love set a remarkable example for all of us and served as the foundation of their family. They were the ultimate power couple.

Michael is survived by his two daughters and cherished grandchildren. His love and guidance have left an indelible mark on each of their lives. He was not only a hero in the eyes of the nation but also a hero within the walls of his own home, a source of inspiration and strength for his family. The Grandkids have loving memories of Poppy’s humor, stories and advice.

Michael's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace, knowing that his sacrifices and love have left an enduring impact on us all.

A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, September 8th from 4pm until time of Memorial Service at 7pm at Kurtz Memorial Chapel 102 Francis Rd, New Lenox, IL 60451.

Private interment for both Rosemary and Michael at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery will occur at a later date.
