Gerald Casimir Skwirut, age 64, of Frankfort, IL., previously of Natrona, PA., Mokena, IL., and Lansing, IL., passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2012. Beloved husband of 39 years to Sandra nee Petrush; loving father of: Samuel Adam (Amanda) and Benjamin Christopher (Dana); cherished grandfather of: Thatcher Benjamin and Vada Marie; dear brother of: Fred J., Mary Ann Valley, Anita Arndt, Elaine Smith. Jerry is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Fred C. and Helen T. Skwirut. Gerald was an internal auditor for 35 years for U.S. Steel, received his bachelor's degree from Penn State University, received his master's degree in management information systems from Benedictine University, was a corporal for the United States Marine Corps, and member of the American Legion Post 48 in Natrona, PA. He enjoyed reading, walking, running, gardening, traveling, eating out, keeping in touch with friends and relatives through the "renowned Christmas letter," and spending time with his grandkids. The family and friends will meet at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Rd., Elwood, IL 60421 on Monday, April 30, 2012 at 11 AM for a memorial service. A memorial gathering will take place at the Skwirut residence on Monday, April 30, 2012 from 2-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to Joliet Area Community Hospice or Cancer Support Center in Mokena appreciated.
