Steve was educated at St. Jude Elementary School, Providence Catholic High School, Joliet Junior College, and graduated from the University of Northern Illinois at DeKalb. He held the record for the 100-yard dash at Joliet Junior College (9.95 seconds). At Northern Illinois University, Steve was a member of the intramural track team and rugby club. Steve was an avid softball player, volleyball player, and recently took to umpiring. Steve's cousin Kevin Dailey wrote, in part, that Steve was a unique blend of "good will, blarney, honesty, humor, and sincerity." Steve was a loyal friend who will be greatly missed. Steve received unusually compassionate support during his illness from his employer and fellow employees at Tri-Star Cabinet and Top Company in New Lenox where he had been employed for over thirty-four years. Steve made friends in all facets of his life. Come celebrate Steve's life! Family will receive friends at the Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Rd., New Lenox, Illinois, on Saturday, February 16, 2013, from 1:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 4:00 p.m. Per Steve's wishes, cremation rites were accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Steve's name will be divided between Providence Catholic High School, New Lenox, and a program for the awareness of esophageal cancer screenings.
