Muriel Edith Mooney (nee Gansert). Born February 17, 1933 in Joliet, Illinois. Died on January 28, 2025. Life-long resident of New Lenox, age 91, passed away peacefully at Lightways Hospice after a brief illness.
She was born in Joliet Illinois to her parents Edith Lee and Harold Gansert on February 17, 1933. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred L. Mooney Sr., her son Fred L. Mooney Jr., her parents Edith Lee and Harold Gansert, her brother Harold Gansert, and her cousin William Markgraf. Survived by her children, David, Muriel Kim Devine (Dan),Patrick (Angelo), Marlene Crone (Mark). Grandchildren Mark De Bold (Jackie), Wade Crone (Lauren), USMC Major Kelly Williamson (Curtis), Joshua Mooney, Justin Mooney (Cathy). Great Grandchildren, Danalynn and Zoey Crone, Elizabeth and Eric Williamson, Marcus De Bold, twins Avalyn and Elliana and Riddick Mooney. Cousins, Richard Markgraf (Aura); Myrna Kay Binford (Jim), and Kitty Vancina (Bud).
Lived in Ridgewood, graduated A.O. Marshall, Joliet, Illinois in 1947, moved back to Iowa, graduated from Roosevelt High School Des Moines, Iowa 1951. Attended Baptist church in Joliet. Upon graduating from Roosevelt High, she came back to New Lenox and married Fred. She became a member of United Methodist Church of New Lenox, Illinois on November 11, 1951. Joined the Friendship Group. Married for 67 years, Muriel was devoted to her 5 wonderful children, and she cared for her first born Fred Jr. who passed away November 8, 2011.
When writing her full name, always used the letter E in her middle name to honor her mother. An E.T. collector and also an avid collector of ceramic turtles. Loved to watch baseball and football games. Very active at the United Methodist Church of New Lenox and the New Lenox Historical Society. She worked at various part-time jobs to help support her family. Her most important job was raising her children.
Time of service 11:00a.m. on February 24 at United Methodist Church, 339 W. Haven Ave., New Lenox, IL 60451.
Interment at later date at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood IL. Donations to United Methodist Church of New Lenox Music Department and Lightways Hospice of Joliet.
