In Loving Memory of Patsy "Meme" Jean Golden
Born Into Life: December 26th, 1934
Born Into Eternity: June 15th, 2015
Patsy "Meme" Jean Golden (Riemer), 81, passed away June 15, 2015, beloved wife of the late Kenneth Golden; loving mother of Cherie (Rich) Edwards, Candace Taylor, Cynthia (John) Danaher; devoted grandmother of Kelly (Brian) Edwards- Lahiere; Daven (Kristen) Edwards; Becca Taylor and Baylee Taylor; John Danaher and Jennifer Danaher; Great grandmother of Catherine Edwards; Jaden Danaher and Destiny Danaher. Adored sister of late Marion (Charles) Nelson, Judy (Fred) Rodriguez, Douglas (Heidi) Riemer, the late Joan (Jim) Kehoe, and the late Joseph "Bud" (Beverly) Riemer, dearest aunt of many special nieces and nephews.
Meme was born December 26, 1934 in an apartment in Chicago, IL. to Helen Riemer (Mahle) and Joseph Riemer. Helen delivered all six of her children at home. Meme was the second daughter of the six children. Meme met Ken by chance at a dance her sister Marion and Chuck would introduced the two together, Moon River was "their" song and will forever be played," there's such a lot of world to see".
Ken would become Meme's one true love and devoted husband of 39 years, they wed December 30, 1954. They would go on to dance through life, spending many happy days together until Ken's passing in April of 1993. During the 39 years together Meme and Ken would often enjoy traveling with their family and friends, large family camping trips as well as hosting family holiday gatherings. Their love of fishing and boating would often take them to northern Wisconsin and Minnesota for many weeks enjoying the lakes. Upon settling in Romeoville, IL it's here they would raise their three girls. Meme could be found car hoping at the local Dog N' Suds Diner, or waiting tables in the evening and weekends at the popular White Fence Farm restaurant. A modest stay – at – home mother, it was family that was important and always came first. Over the years Meme had made many special friends in the community as a lifelong resident her neighbors were very special to her. Meme also enjoyed cooking; many will always remember her Potato Salad, Fried Chicken, Baked Beans and Carrot Cake specialties, as they were often requested at family gatherings.
One of Meme's greatest pleasures was her grandchildren, she enjoyed spending time with each of them and took a very active role in each of their lives, fostering, loving and spoiling them in her own special way, only as a grandmother could do. It was tradition to plant a tree in the back yard as each new grandchild was welcomed into the family. It's a special love and bond the grandchildren hold near to their heart.
Later in life Meme enjoy walking as a hobby, the annual Labor Day walk across the Mackinaw Island Bridge was always a proud moment for her, the 10 miles round trip trek and certificate of completion she would receive were proudly displayed.
It would be over a 10 year period that Meme would be stricken with Alzheimer's disease; this would turn out to be the most difficult years for her, as well as her loved ones. Alzheimer's would steal all that was important to her, the wonderful memories she had of her family and friends she so dearly loved, where slipping away, a name she could no longer remember would be that of her husband or one of her daughter's. She fought a very courageous battle, it was with that good natured spirit, a smile on her face and her love for life, her family, and friends that would sustained her during this difficult struggle.
As we say good bye to Meme, a sister, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, great grandmother, a Godmother, aunt, a neighbor and most importantly a loving kind friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Our hearts are full with your love and grace as we find comfort and peace.
"Hello beautiful" the gates of heaven are wide open for your eternal life.
"A beautiful life that came to an end, she died as she has lived, everyone's friend. In our heart's a memory will always be kept, of one we loved, and will never forget"
