Penny Sue Horney, age 54, of Crete, formerly of Dolton, received her angel wings on Thursday, August 2, 2012. She is survived by her devoted mother Marion, brothers and sister Jim (Marge) of Beecher, Joel Thomas (Mary) of Homewood, Ned (Doreen) of Lexington, Ray (Debbie) of Macomb, Gene (Karen) of Phoenix, AZ, Carol (JR) Kaufmann of Watseka, and Paul (Tammy) of New Lenox. Also surviving are her nieces and nephews Mike, Danielle, Nicole, Linzie, Jeff (Angie), Matt, Chris (Allison) Kaufmann, Kelly Kaufmann, Mitch, Kevin, Aliyanna and Caden. She was preceded in death by her father, Henry.
Penny had a habit of putting everything in order in the literal sense. If you asked her how many siblings she had, she would reply, "five boys, two girls, one boy." She was also the first in the family to look at a calendar and tell everyone exactly when the Easter Bunny, the birthday fairy and the Christmas Elf was coming. She would clear off her dresser top to make sure there was room for the arrival of the newest member of her stuffed animal family. She counted down the days until she could wear her infamous black cat costume for Halloween.
She would start each day with exactly three cups of coffee. Once she had her three cups, she was ready to enjoy her favorite activities which included swimming, dancing, and most recently singing. We had many rousing renditions of "B-I-N-G-O" at the hospital. She even treated us to a few TV commercial jingles, with her favorite being "588-2300--Empire"!
A celebration of Penny's life will be held at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way, Frankfort, IL 60423 on Tuesday, August 7 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Visitation (8:00 PM Prayer Service & Memory Sharing). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Hope Center, 1624 E. 154th St., Dolton, IL 60419.
Penny's family would like to thank the staff at New Hope Center, St. James Hospital, St. James Manor and Vitas Hospice Care. Your care and compassion while treating Penny Sue was very much appreciated.
