Richard N. Schaefer

Age 82 of New Lenox, IL passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, August 27, 2023. Richard was born in Chicago, IL to the late Nicholas and Mildred (nee Bater) Schaefer. Husband of the late Dolores (nee Churas); loving father of Debbie (Richard) Frazier and Mike (Tricia) Schaefer; cherished grandfather of Emily and Seth Schaefer; dear brother of the late Patricia (Gerald) Turrise, uncle, and beloved friend of many. Richard was a proud member of IUOE Local 150, and he retired from the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago. He loved Golden Retrievers and German Shepards, and was an award-winning dog obedience trainer, having achieved the distinction of training multiple OTCH dogs. He was an avid outdoorsman in his younger days and enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends and family. He also enjoyed travel, having reached his lifelong goal of visiting Germany for Oktoberfest with his family. The final years of his life were capped with many cherished dinner outings with his dear friends. The family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel 102 E. Francis Rd. New Lenox, IL on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, for a Memorial visitation from 10:00am – 1:00pm.
