88, late of Homer Glen formerly of Chicago, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013 at his home. Born in Chicago to the late Robert J. and Catherine (nee Sullivan) Smetana; Beloved husband of Patricia Anne (nee Kenneally); Loving father of Sharon (James) Ferrell, Denise (George) Haas, Robert (Laurie) Smetana and Kevin Smetana; Cherished grandfather of Michael Smetana, Susan Smetana and Kathryn (Josh) Tyler; Great grandfather of Jamie and Jessie Tyler and the late Joey Tyler; Dear brother of Frank (Mary) Smetana, James (Therese) Smetana, Katherine (the late James) Holleran, Rose Marie (James) Perkins, the late Francis Seal and the late Raymond Smetana; Brother-in-law of Howie Seal. Robert was a decorated WWII Veteran. He was a member of the 71st Battalion U.S. Navy Seabees attached to the 3rd Marines and saw action in Boganville, Okinawa and Guadalcanal. He was also a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local #62 for over 65 years and a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, New Lenox. Family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Road, New Lenox, IL 60451, Friday, April 5, 2013 for a Memorial visitation from 9:00 – 11AM. to St. Jude Church, 241 West 2nd Avenue, New Lenox, IL 60451 for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM. Private inurnment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Alsip.
