Rolf Kurt Szybilski
Age 91. Rolf was born in Magdeburg, Germany on January 30, 1927 and passed away on October 16, 2018. He was raised on the north side of Chicago where he became a devoted Cubs fan. Luckily, he got the chance to see his beloved Cubs finally win the World Series.


Rolf graduated from Steinmetz H.S., joining the U.S. Navy after graduation. He then attended the University of Illinois, receiving his B.S. Degree in Chemistry after only 2 ½ years. After graduating from U of I, Rolf was employed with Continental Can Company for 36 years as a Research Chemist.


Rolf was a Garfield Ridge resident for 42 years, moving to Lockport in 1997.
Beloved husband for 67 years to Martha (nee Gutekunst); loving father of Karen (Stephen) LaPointe and Scott (Carol) Szybilski; cherished grandfather of Stephen (Erin) LaPointe, Nicole (Tyler) Bange, Erica (Tom) Dix, David Szybilski, Robert Szybilski and Michael Szybilski; beloved Opa to Tori, Natalie, and Liam LaPointe, Nate Bange and McKenna Dix.


Rolf enjoyed working in his yard and outsmarting the squirrels from eating the birdseed. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling, crossword puzzles, and beating everyone in the card game “Oh Hell!”. He was known for proclaiming “I’ve got news for you” and his love for his almanac.


Family will receive friends at Goodale Memorial Chapel 912 S. Hamilton St, Lockport on Thursday, October 18, 2018 from 3pm – 8pm. Funeral Service Friday, October 19, 2018 at 10:00am in the funeral home chapel. Interment Mount Auburn Cemetery, Stickney, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Joliet Area Community Hospice (www.joliethospice.org) would be appreciated.
