Ruth Margaret Byers, 89, passed peacefully into eternity November 8, 2024 at Cedarhurst of Frankfort in Frankfort, Illinois.
She was born April 29, 1935, the fourth of six siblings, to William and Beulah Ziegler Walker in Carsonville, Michigan.
Ruth accepted the Lord, His promises and His teachings into her heart in her teens and was steadfast in her faith throughout her whole life.
After high school graduation she worked as a secretary for the US Department of Agriculture and the CIA in Washington, DC. She met her husband Douglas Byers there, and they were married September 5, 1954 in Sandusky, Michigan.
She was a hard working stay-at-home mom to four children, eventually moving to, and living in, Chesapeake, Virginia for over fifty years. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, and collecting recipes and cookbooks.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her youngest son, Denton Byers. She is survived by a daughter, Susan (Ron) Justus of Frankfort, Illinois, and two sons, Roger Byers of Chesapeake, Virginia, and Brian (Angel) Byers of Providence Forge, Virginia. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and a sister, Lois Douglas, of Appleton, Wisconsin.
Visitation will be held on November 30th at the Kurtz Memorial Chapel in Frankfort, Illinois from 9-11 AM with a service at 11.
On December 13th a visitation will be held at the Hollomon-Brown Chapel in Great Bridge, Chesapeake, Virginia from 10-11AM with a service at 11 and burial in the Chesapeake Memorial Gardens immediately following.
The family requests that floral tributes be sent to the December 13th service, or in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in her memory. They would also like to extend their grateful thanks to their mother’s nurses and caretakers at Cedarhurst for their kindness and care over the past years.
