Shirley R. Eichholzer (nee Skeldon)
66, of Naples, FL, formerly of Wilmington, IL passed away March 8, 2015. Born in Kansas City, MO, she was the beloved daughter of the late Darius and Lillian (Geist) Skeldon. Shirley married her best friend, Jay, on October 2, 1982 at Lambert's Arrowhead Resort in Mercer, WI. Throughout the years, Jay and Shirley supported each other in their personal lives and career goals. Her love and respect for Jay was undeniable. In 1969 Shirley accepted a position with the Will County Sheriff's Department. In her 21 years of service on the job, she paved the way for her fellow women colleagues and those that followed by becoming the first female Sergeant in Will County in 1981 and retiring from the Sheriff's Department in 1990 as Deputy Chief of the Special Services Division. She was very proud of her accomplishments. Shirley is survived by her caring and devoted husband of 32 years, Jay Eichholzer. She was the fond stepmother to David (Sheri) Eichholzer and Dennis (Natalie) Eichholzer; grandmother to five grandchildren, Brian (Erika) and AJ Lenzie, Michael, Daniel, and Emily Eichholzer; and special great grandmother to Chase, Jacob, Gianna, Justin, and Colin. Shirley is also survived by her sister-in-law Lynn Gaynor. The family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Rd. New Lenox, IL 60451 for a Memorial visitation on Friday, April 10, 2015 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Inurnment will be private. Memorials in Shirley's name may be made to Joliet Area Community Hospice.
