Stephen C. Peterson
It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Stephen C. Peterson, who passed away surrounded by family on August 19th at Silver Cross Hospital of cancer. He was 61. He leaves behind his wife of 28 years Barbara (nee Farrell) and two children; Stephanie (Jess) Gregoles and Stephen Peterson. He was fortunate to gain more children upon his marriage to Barbara; Mike (Teresa) Martin, Pat (Debbie) Martin, Rick (Cindy) Martin, Karen (Scott) Bunkowski and Beth (Chris) Wilson. He was a superb grandfather and great-grandfather. He was involved in supporting their activities and rarely missed a chance to attend a game, play or show to which he was invited. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren. He is preceded in death by his mother Rosemary. He was born on June 27, 1953 in Joliet, IL the oldest child of Delmar and Rosemary (nee Hagan) Peterson. He shared his childhood with siblings Jim Peterson, Marie Maples and Sue (Edward) Paul. His early years were spent in Austin, MN; moving back to Joliet in 1963. He remained a Joliet resident for the rest of his life. He attended Providence Catholic High School, graduating in 1971. He was employed by the Prairie State Mill and Ivex Paper Mills in Joliet. Those who knew him will remember his love of music, commitment to American-made products, passion for deep conversation and love of bird watching. He loved watching the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics and Minnesota Vikings. He was a long-time member of St. Mary Magdalene in Joliet and served in the choir and as lector for many years. He played in many APA pool leagues over the past 15 years, most recently with the Cryptos. Our thanks to the nurses and staff at the University of Chicago Cancer Center at Silver Cross and Silver Cross Hospital. Special thanks to nurses Anne and Jessica for the outstanding level of care provided to Stephen and his family during his last days. The family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, New Lenox on Sunday, August 24, 2014 from 2PM – 7PM. Everyone will meet at St. Mary Magdalene Church, Joliet on Monday, August 25, 2014 for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM. Interment will be private.
