Valentine “Val” Kurzeja, age 88, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2021.
Valentine is survived by his step-children, Barry Suslowicz and Walter Suslowicz; sister Margaret Florence; many grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Violet Kurzeja; parents, Jozef and Regina Kurzeja; step-children, Patricia Flowers, and William Harris; siblings, Mike, Sophie, Rose, Theresa, Joseph, Stanley, Florence, Ben, John, and Mary.
Valentine was born in Chicago on February 8, 1933. He honorably served his country during the Korean War. He will be remembered for being a devout Catholic who could be found attending Saint Julie Billiart nearly every day for many years. He will also be remembered for his green thumb and being a very talented gardener. Valentine was also extremely talented with oil paintings and would often gift his art to family and friends.
Services for Valentine will begin with a visitation at Kurtz Memorial Chapel in New Lenox on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 from 4pm until 8pm. A mass will be held at Saint Julie Billiart, 7399 W 159th, Tinley Parker, IL 60477, on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at 10am. Valentine will be laid to rest privately at Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City. Masks and social distancing are mandatory for all in attendance.
