VERNELL JOHNSON JR.

Age 82, of Flossmoor, IL passed away Monday, September 2, 2024 at Franciscan Health in Olympia Fields. 

Vernell is survived by his loving family, wife, Bernice Johnson (Clark), children, Vernice (Michael) Warren, Vernell III (Anita) Johnson, Verlon (Sean) Johnson, siblings, Dorothy Johnson, Laverne Tobias, grandchildren, Vernon (Ebony) Johnson, Darius Johnson, Avery (Geneva) Johnson, Michelle Warren, Mikayla Warren, Vernell Johnson IV, Carrington Johnson, Troy Johnson, Addy Johnson, great grandchild, Elin Johnson and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Vernell was preceded in death by his parents, Vernell Sr. & Lillie Johnson (Crossley), siblings, Harold Johnson, Shirley Johnson-Packer and Derril Johnson.

Vernell was a United States Army Veteran and member of Calvary United Protestant Church in Park Forest since 1977. He enjoyed a distinguished career as a Glazier with the Chicago Housing Authority and was a proud, active member of Glaziers Union Local #27 as well as the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades. Vernell's leadership extended beyond his profession, as he was deeply involved in the Boy Scouts of America in the Chicago South Suburbs and many other community endeavors. Vernell also found immense joy in camping, fishing, and traveling across the country with his family, instilling in his children the ambition to visit all 50 states. As an enthusiastic early member of the Family Motor Coach Association, he embraced the adventure of the open road. Beyond his love for the outdoors, Vernell’s entrepreneurial spirit was evident in his venture as a former restaurateur, where he brought a taste of Chicago culture to El Paso, Texas.

Family will receive loved ones at Calvary United Protestant Church, 425 North Orchard Drive, Park Forest, IL 60466 on Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 10:00 AM until time of memorial service at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private.
