William “Bill” James Markunas, 71, of New Lenox, passed away unexpectedly on July 12, 2021. He is survived by his loving family, wife of 48 years, Cynthia “Cindy” (nee Schneller) Markunas; son, William “Will” Markunas of Frankfort; daughter, Mariellen Markunas of Downers Grove; granddaughters: Grace and Ava Markunas; brothers: Joseph Markunas of CA and Robert (Kathleen) Markunas of Plainfield. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William R. and Myrta Mae (nee Riley) Markunas and sister, Pamela Markunas. Bill was born and raised in Chicago, living in the Mount Greenwood and Beverly neighborhoods and Evergreen Park. He graduated Quigley High School in 1967 and received a Bachelors Degree in Communications from Loyola. Bill retired after a career as a land surveyor and his greatest joy was being the adoring Papa of his granddaughters. A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, from 8:45 a.m. – until prayers at 10:45 a.m. at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way, Frankfort, IL. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. at St. Jude's Church, 241 W. 2nd Ave. in New Lenox. Interment following at St. Casimir Cemetery in Chicago.
